The Dirt Bike Kid (1985), Clue (1985), Spaceballs (1987), Chopping Mall (1986)

The kid from A Christmas Story (Peter Billingsley) spends the last of his mother's money to buy a living dirt bike (yes, living... like Herbie or Christine) and has tons of adventures, saving the very heart of his small town in the process. It's goofy and silly but acceptable. Probably better when you're a 12-year old boy (I rolled my eyes so many times), but sweet-natured.

I could have sworn I'd reviewed Clue before... what a little gem this is. Great cast, funny plot, three endings (!), nice comedic timing throughout ("Flames! On ...the side of my face..."). Based on the famous board game, a group of people all being blackmailed gather together in a mansion... then the bodies start falling. I don't want to give anything away. This is a LOT of fun, and very quick paced - so pay attention. Highly recommended.

Mel Brooks made this parody/satire of Star Wars (and other movies), featuring John Candy, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, and Daphne Zuniga (among others). Hilarious? Yes. Low-brow? Yes. But well worth watching if you've never seen it. There aren't enough sci-fi parodies anymore (sigh, Futurama)... this is a real trip, and worth the time.

Another movie I could have SWORN I reviewed before... but the archives are deep and it takes less time to just watch and review it again. So: Chopping Mall. One of the quintessential "so bad it's good" 80s horror movies. A mall builds high tech robots (they look like escapees from the RoboCop factory) to guard the mall using ludicrously violent methods. Then lightning hits the mall and the robots go bezerk, murdering everyone they find... mostly a group of teens who were having fun after hours. All hell breaks loose - it's great fun! Recommended if you don't expect too many thoughts.
