Dark Forces (1980), Zombie Nightmare (1987), Story of a Junkie (1985)

Released as Harlequin in Australia, and as Dark Forces in the US, this is a modern retelling if the Rasputin story... except it sucks. No offense to the Film Board of Western Australia, who produced this, but it was low quality I couldn't finish it. Hard avoid.

Big winner, for the soundtrack alone!! Heavy metal/hard rock heaven is grafted onto a fairly pedestrian zombie revenge movie. Jon Mikl Thor (love this guy) is the son of a good man murdered by punks while rescuing a young woman from rape... fast forward a number of years and now THE SON is killed by drunk driving punks.

But his mother hires a sorceress - that rescued girl from years ago - to bring him back as a zombie to gain revenge on the scum who killed him. Can you guess what happens next? You're mostly right. There is a small twist at the end, but it won't shake your world. Still, the movie is firmly in the "so bad it's good" camp. A nice partner to Jon Mikl Thor's 1987 counterpart Rock N' Roll Nightmare.

I'm not sure if this is a documentary or fiction. But it was so grim I had to stop watching... second movie of the day I couldn't finish. This is a VERY gritty/grimy look at the hard drug lifestyle in the East Village in the very early 80s. It's full of sad people at their lowest point... too hard to watch.
